Employment Opportunity

The Potter County Sheriff now has an opening for one full-time Deputy Sheriff. Applications and/or resumés are being accepted beginning July 9, 2008.

South Dakota L.E. Certification preferred but not required.

Minimum of a High School diploma. Clean criminal record and good driving history required with a valid SD driver's license.

Position is open until filled. This is a very small department with the Sheriff, one deputy and an executive secretary/civil deputy. Gettysburg has a population of 1350 and is a great place for a family. Duties include those of most Sheriffs: county-wide civil process service; court duty; prisoner transport; patrol; investigation of crimes; traffic accidents; search and rescue coordination; and other peace officer duties, as well as assisting city and state officers.

Hourly wage D.O.E., some overtime possible, paid vacation and holidays, sick leave, health insurance paid by county, family plan optional.
