COUNTY JAIL

We contract with outside counties for all jail services.  We no longer hold inmates in Gettysburg.  All inmates and arrestees are housed in:

  • Selby, Walworth County, (605) 649-1015   

  • Pierre, Hughes County, (605) 773-7475   

  • Faulkton, Faulk County, (605) 598-6229   

Visitation hours and calls are regulated by the individual housing agencies.


CIVIL PROCESS

We do not require pre-payment for civil process from attorneys in most cases.

  • FEES: State scheduled under SDCL § 7-12-18 (Summons & Complaint $25)

  • MILEAGE: $.43 per mile, round trip.


DRIVER LICENSING

  • Regular written and eye tests held at the Sheriff's Office (courthouse). CDL renewals cannot be done here.

  • Driving tests are held at the Sheriff's Office by appointment.  CDL and motorcycle driving tests are not given by our department.


concealed pistol permits

  • ALL renewals and new permits are available to adult county residents during office hours, requiring a photo ID and criminal history check.  A $10 fee is charged. See the link below for permit reciprocity with other states.
